This tool currently covers January–August 2026. January through June are billed on the pre-July tariff; July and August use the new tariff with YSPSC's officially published Variable Fuel Cost for that month — the VFC field fills in automatically once you pick a month.
January–June 2026 (source: YSPSC's Nov 2023 published tariff schedule), both prepaid and postpaid customers were billed on an increasing-block schedule — each kWh block is charged at its own rate:
July–August 2026 (source: the May 27, 2026 tariff notice; this matches an actual bill example), usage is billed on the same increasing-block method as before — kWh within each bracket is charged at that bracket's own rate, not your whole usage at one rate. Each bracket's rate is NFC + VFC.
Prepaid FMC: the fixed monthly charge is billed once, on the first cash power purchase of the month. This tool assumes the tier/rate for a prepaid purchase is based on that purchase's kWh amount, not a running monthly total — check with YSPSC customer service if your vending system tracks it differently.
"By amount ($)" mode: instead of entering kWh, you can enter a dollar amount — useful for comparing what the same cash power purchase would get you in different months. The tool assumes the full amount goes to energy after any fixed monthly charge and streetlight billing (on the first purchase) are deducted first, consistent with how prepaid purchases are billed. Actual vending system rounding may differ by a few cents.
